Is Shaun de Lange the Donald Cerrone of the EFC?

Extreme Fighting Championship welterweight Shaun de Lange will step into the Hexagon once again when he faces England's Joe Cummins at EFC59 on Saturday at Carnival City.

De Lange (4-2-0) made his return at EFC58 with a Fight of the Night performance against Dino Bagattin which he won by split decision, since losing to Mark Hulme back in 2015.

With little over a month after his war with Bagattin at the GrandWest Arena, the 22-year-old was eager to make up for lost time and took up a fight against Cummins (3-1-0) in the Co-main event.

De Lange could easily be compared to UFC welterweight Donald Cerrone, who holds a similar height and reach advantage. But, what gives him the Cerrone persona is his eagerness to get inside the Hexagon and trade with whoever stands before him.

Cerrone always entertains and keeps fight fans on the edge of their seats with his warrior performances. And, like the Cowboy, De Lange showed just that at EFC58.

"It felt good to get the win, it was what I wanted," he said after his win against Bagattin. "I want to climb the ranks now... I know I've got a lot of hard work ahead but I want the opportunity (to fight for the belt)."

If all goes De Lange's way on Saturday, he could get that title fight sooner rather than later.

At the EFC59 media day at the weekend, both De Lange and title holder Dricus du Plessis agreed that it would make an exciting exchange should they face each other.

Prior to De Lange's long layoff, he had fights against Luke Michael and Pupanga Tresor from DR Congo cancelled. And, as the youngster fights his way to a title shot, he'll strap up against the Englishman who called him out.

"I don't know the guy but I've seen some footage and he has good striking and a good ground game," he said.

"It will be a good test for me. I'm always ready for a fight so it doesn't matter if he called me out. I'm the type of fighter who will always go out there and fight hard and will put on a show.

"I'm going to be aggressive, I will be in his face and I'm not going to stop until I finish him. That's always my game plan," he said.
